Your apprenticeship as a
certified packaging printer
A top modern training company
Your training facility is in our state-of-the-art new building. We have the best machines and technologies – there’s a lot for you to learn. We work to the highest standards because we adhere to the regulations for food packaging.
An apprenticeship with us is the perfect start if you want to do a technically demanding apprenticeship that will open up many opportunities for you later on.
Whether you then start directly with us or want to continue your studies, for example as a qualified media manager HF or do a Bachelor of Science in Media Engineering, we will support you either way.
Young talents and experienced professionals
Our team consists of many long-standing employees who will support you in your work. You can always rely on them. They have a lot of confidence in you and let you take on responsibility.
What do packaging printers do?
As a certified packaging printer, you will print on a wide variety of materials such as plastic and composite films, paper or self-adhesive materials.
You set up the printing machines, mix the inks and are responsible for the entire printing process. You will do this work on complex flexo printing machines, on which you can also carry out die-cutting or finishing with glossy foils.
You produce packaging materials that help to reduce the consumption of packaging resources.
You ensure that these materials can be further processed into flexible packaging such as banderoles, edge-sealed pouches, tubular bags or labels.
No shift work, time for hobbies and friendships
Your job is teamwork. That’s why we start at the same time. The good news: you don’t work in shifts, but during the day. So you have enough time for your hobbies or friendships.
Gautschbrief: Your profession has a long tradition
At the end of your apprenticeship, you will be washed. We will ceremoniously throw you into a vat of water to wash you clean of your apprenticeship sins.
This tradition has been around for a long time and dates back to the time of typesetters. In addition to the certificate of proficiency, you will also receive the Gautschbrief. After that, you are officially a disciple of Gutenberg.
Why a disciple of Gutenberg? Johannes Gutenberg invented letterpress printing around 1440, which also gave rise to flexographic printing or packaging printing.
Work steps in packaging printing
Work preparation
You set up your workstation so that everything is ready for the print job – this means preparing the machine, reading the print job and setting everything up so that the job can run smoothly. You mix special colors according to the recipe so that they match perfectly. Sounds easy, right? But this is where it gets really exciting: you decide exactly how to proceed so that you end up with the perfect print result.
Printing production
Then it’s time to get started: you check again whether the material and colors are ready. You create the first test prints, check the quality and make adjustments if something is not quite right. Sounds like a big responsibility? Exactly! But it’s great fun when everything runs perfectly. Especially when gold foil or die-cutting is added.
Completing and ongoing work
After printing, you prepare the finished print rolls for the next step, cutting them into smaller rolls in the next department. The machine also needs love: you clean it, maintain it and ensure that it is in top shape for the next job. Together with your team, you keep the printing machines in top shape – and constantly learn new things about technology, inks and packaging materials.
